I went just one evening and it was great as usual. We had 1,300 go through that evening!
Wow, Kathy! What a wonderful gift to your community. I shivered when I saw the soldier in sandals, and all those children and animals! How many people does that take to pull off? How many people in your church? What a blessing - I really am overwhelmed at the beautiful costumes, live animals, sleeping baby Jesus...you all definitely earned jewels for your crowns that night. And your photography once again is delightful and breathtaking. Really...I am amazed at what a wonderful site!

Hi Kristen (not Katherine, right?!)
We had about 200 people in costume. (175 or so regular attenders. We have many not affiliated with the church that participate, mostly the animal handlers.) We've been doing this for ten years. It started out with just the youth group and they did the manger scene. It's grown each year. Many folks now make it part of their Christmas celebration. We go for three nights in a row. Everyone is pretty exhausted by the end of the weekend but it is a real joy and blessing to put it on. Annie and Ruh will probably play Joseph and Mary next year! Mary this year was Hannah's sister Ruth. Leo, the baby, was so good and sweet! Actually, Hannah and Willie may trade off with Annie and Ruh.

Sorry for taking so long to respond to your post on my blog. I looked at this slideshow a few weeks ago but haven't had the chance to comment on it. It's really amazing! I love the shots of the angels -- the fog has such a cool affect on the photos and the lead angel's expressions are fantastic. Also, I love the photos you have of the torches and the cars pulling in to the display. The juxtaposition between modern-day machinery lights on the back of the cars and the fiery torches is really cool. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks Katherine. One of my favorite images this year is of the cast members mingling with the cars. The past mixing with the present...Yesterday was a 14 hour wedding shoot for my niece. I won't be home for a couple more weeks to edit them but I'm looking forward to posting some of those images. Hope you and your family had a great Christmas. Say hi to your mom for me.
